Investigative Journalism

On saturday, October 26, 2016, there was a car racing down a street with the passenger screaming, “Go Cubs” with a flag sticking out of the car that had a “W” on it. Which stand for the Cubs. The passenger was doing this because the cubs won their game. The score of the game was five to zero. Other people were also screaming “Go Cubs!”. There were also fireworks, blue red white. Probably to significant the Cubs on their winning. It was a chaos of what happened because people were acting like the passenger that was driving the car. This happened in Berwyn and also in Cicero.

1st Quarter Reflections

In 1st Quarter, ELA I learned that many things that I haven't or forgotten in 7th grade. For example Vocabulary. When I started 8th grade vocabulary ELA, I didn't remember the words and some were already given to me in 7th grade. So when the class was taking a Vocabulary test I started off in a bad position but on the other tests I gotten better by the day.  So every week I learned different words, and could use those words in the future. To help with studying the words Mrs. Larson, my 8th grade ELA teacher taught the class a Frayer Model. Which helps us learn the word and to also teach us what it means. We also use it for Prefixes, which help us learn new words with that prefix and also what it means.

One new thing I learned in ELA 8th grade is how to do a news story. This was my favorite part because I had the experience to be a newscaster. This helped me because in the future I would probably need to do this when i'm in High School. What I also liked about this learning subject is that we got to go outside and observe things that are not usually there, like what observers and Newscasters do.

Another new thing in ELA 8th grade Is, I learned what is a Blog and how it works. I also liked this part of ELA because it was interesting and we didn't have to write it in our notebooks. It was new to me because i never used the blog on google. Another new thing In ELA was a website called Edmodo. I liked this website because it helps me find out what we have for homework if I forget.

Film Vs. Book

An event from The Giver is when Asher was assigned as a Director of Recreation, and Fiona was assigned to take care of the old so The house of the old. But in the movie the difference was that their assignments were different. Asher's assignment was a Drone Pilot and Fiona, her assignment was a Nurturer. These assignments are different from the book because well they are different but they help Jonas escape later on in the movie. Fiona's assignment helps Jonas by taking Gabe from the Nurturing center and Asher help Jonas escape when the Chief Elder tells him to get rid of Jonas.

In the movie the ending was different from the book because first of all Asher and Fiona help out Jonas escaping the community by using their assignments, so Fiona had the assignment of a Nurturer and Asher had the assignment of a Drone Pilot. One other difference in the book is that in the movie they show Jonas seeing the sled and also going down and passing the border they had for the memories, also seeing the house that he saw in the memory.

The most medium that impacted my understanding of The Giver was the film. The film was the most that impacted my understanding of The Giver because in the film it shows pictures of how the community looks like and in the book they didn't give enough evidence how the community looks like. Also in the ending they show that when Jonas sees the sled he goes down and passes the border of the community to return the memories to the people, also he sees the house (what Jonas saw in the memory.)

The Giver Blog Assessment

In the book The Giver, Jonas is the type of person that is dynamic. If you don't know a dynamic person is when a person changes throughout a book, movie, etc. I think that Jonas is a dynamic person because in the beginning of the book Jonas was uncertain and afraid. And when he turns a Twelve he gets the job as a Receiver he changes by learning new things such as love, pain, and color. He also changes by being curious and knows everything but not everything about the community.

When Jonas first had the feeling of love, “I couldn't quite get the word for the whole feeling of it, the feeling that was so strong in the room.”  (14) This quote fits with the topic sentence because it shows that Jonas is learning something new from the Giver so that means that he is changing by learning something new.

When Jonas had notice that he was giving a memory to the new child which is Gabriel, “He was not aware of giving the memory; but suddenly he realized that it was becoming dimmer, that it was sliding through his hand into the being of the new child.” (116) This fits the topic sentence because Jonas learns that he can transfer memories like the Giver does to him.

The theme that I chose in the book The Giver it is Importance of Memories. I picked this theme because in the book there's a lot of memories about a lot of things such as the past. Also because that the book talks a lot about memories and the Giver explains that their are no memories about the past shared to the citizens of the community.

When Jonas wanted the Giver to go with him on the quest to find ElseWhere he says, “The worst part of holding memories is not the pain. It's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared.” (154) This quote fits in with the topic sentence because the Giver is talking about his opinion on the memories and that they should be shared and it's good to have them shared not just stored into one person. It's too much for them to take all of the memories at once.

When Jonas was arguing about why they have to keep all the memories to themselves and Jonas says, “without the memories it's all meaningless.” (105) This fits in with my topic sentence because it tells us that Jonas does not like the way the memories are only to themselves and if memories aren't shared to other people the world would be meaningless and their would be nothing to explore like new things if everything is the same.
